Using
a common chassis to minimize costs for markets with highly segmented
service areas and service needs, AFC originated the single-shelf, single-platform
solution to fit into any existing network and deliver any desired service
on a region-by-region basis. Narrowband and broadband services on one
platform—POTS to xDSL to E3/DS3 over copper, fiber, or wireless
transport media. With a 6.2 Gbps backplane architecture, the UMC1000
has the potential to alternate between TDM, Frame Relay, and ATM networks.
One platform performing multiple services, providing many transports,
and enabling numerous network topologies—with lower purchase costs
and lower installation and operating expenses than separate-shelf, separate-vendor
